Our Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens) is ethically sourced and certified by SERFOR, the only agency of its kind responsible for the legal and ethical harvesting of this tree. Contrary to common misconception, Palo Santo is not an endangered species.
By purchasing sustainably produced Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens), you are certainly not hurting the wild populations of this plant. In fact, you may even be helping to protect Palo Santo and its habitat by purchasing sustainably produced products. By doing so, you are providing local communities with the economic benefits of protecting the forest, which creates an alternative to cutting it down for timber production. The supplier we work with in Peru only employs local people and families who have been tending these forests for years and know them better than anyone else. Our partner also supports the conservation and reforestation of South America’s dry forests, planting hundreds of new seedlings of this tree every year. By working with him, we are also part of this process, and with us, our customers. You can read out all about Palo Santo here.
This is probably due to not lighting the Palo Santo stick long enough. Hold the Palo Santo stick at a 45 degree angle and light it. Allow about half a minute for the flame to catch, only then – blow it out. Your Palo Santo should produce a substantial amount of smoke. Direct the smoke onto areas you wish to clean and purify, creating a sacred space. Re-light when required.
Similarly to Palo Santo, the smudge stick has to be lit properly. Allow about half a minute for the flame to catch, and then blow it out. It is, however, natural for the incense to go out after a couple of minutes. The amount of smoke produced after one burning should be enough for a cleansing ritual. If it is not, you can always re-light it again.
Absolutely not, you can re-burn it many times. If you leave your incense on the incense burner after smudging, it will go out on its own after some time. You can easily return to using the same incense the next day. Our products are dried, natural plants, so their quality does not deteriorate over time.
Our pets tolerate the scents and don’t seem to be bothered by them – smudging doesn’t usually last that long. However, we always recommend to make sure that your pet can freely leave the room in which the incense is being burned. We also recommend to open your windows and let fresh air in after using incense.
At this point, no one has conducted any studies that would unequivocally answer the question of whether smudging during pregnancy is safe or not. When in doubt about whether a substance is safe, it’s always better to follow your intuition, or simply refrain from using it.
As a company, we cannot openly recommend the use of our products during pregnancy, as their safety largely depends on how the incense is used. Incense does produce smoke, and inhaling larger amounts of smoke can always be potentially harmful. However, it is a fairly short-lived activity, and the smoke that the herbs produce is a medicinal smoke, so with moderate use and gentle airing of the room after incensing, there should be no adverse effects.
All our incense, including Palo Santo, are dried plants without any additives, the quality and origin of which are very important to us. The smoke they produce is called medicinal smoke for a reason. The research on the effects of smudging showed that just 1 hour of incense using palo santo and other medicinal herbs (sage, pine, yerba santa) reduced over 94% of bacteria present in the space, and the ability of smoke to disinfect and clean the air was maintained for 24 hours. hours later.
Anything that is burned in an enclosed space creates some degree of particulate matter in the air, so there is always some health risk associated with it. This applies not only to incense but also to candles, for example. Burning incense very intensely, especially indoors, can increase the risk of respiratory problems. It is therefore important to choose reliable and high quality products and to make sure that the space is aired out after incensing.
Burners & lamps
The bulbs in our salt lamps have E14 thread and 15W power.
Our mats provide a good grip and are non-slip due to specially placed woven cotton stoppers on both ends of the mat. These additional elements naturally promote better body alignment and keep hands and feet in place throughout your yoga practice. The mats also feature a natural rubber coating on the underside that provides a strong grip of the material to the floor. You can read more about that here.
Purnama Rituals yoga mats can last a lifetime with proper care. Follow our washing instructions and only use natural, chemical-free washing products to clean the mats. During regular use, it is enough to wipe the mat down with a damp cloth, and hang to dry. Our yoga mats are naturally antibacterial and have antifungal properties due to the medicinal herbs used, so you won’t have to clean them as often as regular yoga mats. Wash every 3-6 months, depending on your practice & individual needs.
