We have been conditioned to look outside of ourselves for all of the really important things in life, particularly, unconditional love.
Self-love is showing ourselves the same kind of respect, compassion, and kindness that we gladly extend towards others. The point is not to love yourself when someone appreciates or approves your actions, seeking reinforcement in others, but to consciously love yourself now, at this moment, regardless of circumstances.
The key is to consciously feel that feeling for yourself now, at this moment, regardless of the circumstances. It can become an inexhaustible source of strength for all the challenges that await you, and the certainty that you will deal with all of them.
1. Accept the you that you are today
Accept where you are now. Striving for improvement and self-development is crucial, but at the same time further development may not be possible without understanding and accepting where you are now. It is great to have a goal in mind, but let’s also appreciate the journey that leads to achieving it.
Research into self-love shows that a healthy sense of acceptance is one of the main factors motivating us to achieve our goals. Without satisfaction with the current state of affairs, it is difficult to feel healthy motivation based on positive stimuli. Accepting your “I” today is a key element in building your happy future.
2. Set Boundaries
Listen to yourself. Take time to listen to yourself, your thoughts and desires. This will set the tone to your day and activate the presence of love and unity with yourself.
One of the boldest acts of self-love is to appreciate time, energy, and how much you give yourself to others. Take care of yourself by setting boundaries that prioritize your well-being. This does not mean that you shouldn’t be kind and helpful to others. On the contrary, by valuing your time and energy, you gain more value in the eyes of those you want to support. In addition, it will be much better for you and better for your well-being, because you will no longer cross your own limits and boundries.
3. Create a ritual of self-love
Loving yourself means loving yourself unconditionally, while taking care of yourself is taking time to do things that make us feel good about ourselves. It can be said that taking care of yourself is more of a temporary and cyclical solution, and self-love should be constant and unchanging. Rituals that focus on self-love are those that deepen your relationship with yourself. These include movement exercises such as meditation and yoga, which will strengthen the connection between the body and mind. It can also be selected breathing exercises, making an object yourself, incensing or preparing a healthy meal. All of these activities, when done with care, will help you reduce stress and strengthen your sense of harmony and unity with the world and with yourself.
4. Explore your own spirituality
Faith is the foundation of self-love, no matter what you believe in. Belief in something opens your soul to the beauty of trust. It builds intuition and helps you make decisions based on what you feel. Discovering your spirituality will also take you on a journey to get to know yourself, and these new thoughts, feelings and emotions will make you appreciate yourself for being truly and authentically you. Very often, the impulse to search for one’s own path are people encountered by chance, whose stories and conversations inspire and suggest previously unknown solutions. However, do not be afraid to look for them on your own, even on the Internet or in thematic groups. It may turn out that this is where you come across this magical, one sentence that will manage to define what has so far been in you as indefinite and incomprehensible. Verbalizing your feelings is the first step to understanding yourself, and hence it is not far to a conscious life with full acceptance.
5. Take care of yourself
Practicing self-care rituals as part of our daily routine is a way of knowing ourselves and deepening our love for ourselves. The moments spent with yourself in concentration and mindfulness are extremely important to your well-being. Choose a ritual that appeals to you – it could be meditation, mindful morning coffee brewing, or incensing to get rid of negative energy. And the time you choose as best for the practice of your rituals depends on you, your needs and the rhythm of the day. Some people prefer to give in to them in the morning, before starting an intense day. It becomes a moment when they can think about the upcoming challenges with hope, set their goals and focus on the positive energy that will guide them through the day. Others, in turn, experience moments of greatest awareness and self-care in the evening – their rituals are a signal that they have finished their work that day. You can then take care of your gratitude journal, think about the tasks completed and breathe calmly after the duties completed.
Don’t underestimate the strength and value of nurturing the relationship you have with yourself. Love for yourself breeds trust, peace and joy in you.
Self-love is the key to creating healthy and lasting relationships with others – you can only love someone else when you have too much love for yourself.
Fall in love with yourself.
